Troops discover 25 human skulls, arrest 44 IPOB members

The Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe, says its troops have discovered 25 human skulls in some militants’ shrines in Cross River State.

The ODS also said its troops arrested 44 members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra in Bayelsa State.

The Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, ODS, Lt.-Col. Olaolu Daudu, made this known in a statement on Thursday evening.

The ODS spokesman said on Wednesday, troops of Sector 4 of the outfit in Cross River, acting on a tip-off, carried out raids in Ikot Ene Idem, Abakpa and Ikang Inam in Bakassi and Akpabuyo Local Government Areas of the state.

He said during the cordon-and-search operations, the troops discovered four militant shrines with 25 human skulls in various stages of decomposition, a complete human skeleton and several other human body parts.

Daudu said the shrines were destroyed as troops continued the search for the perpetrators of the heinous acts against humanity.

He said, “With the clearance of these shrines, the Bakassi Strike Force have effectively been smoked out from the areas they used to hold sway. “It should be noted that the senseless killing of humans for ritual purposes is sacrilegious and will not be tolerated in any form within the joint operation area.”

Meanwhile, the spokesman said the troops arrested two suspects while on patrol at Idebe Ifak Anam, Ikot Okon Edem and Abakpa of Bakassi LGAs Cross River.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested suspects were agents of BSF militants who acted as spies for them.
